• Get your guestroom ready ahead of Christmas

At this time of year, when the hours and days seem to run away from us, I find it’s always a good idea to plan ahead to the festivities and get organised.

If you’re having guests to stay, make sure your spare room meets muster at this stage in the proceedings, allowing you time to enjoy the season without, hopefully, any last-minute panics.

What guest bedrooms may lack in space, you can definitely make up for in style. You can ensure this is the case by picking the right furniture for your space.

Investing in stylish furniture can provide an attractive focal point to a room, while some pre-planning on items to use can maximise space at the same time.

If your guests are staying for a while, empty some drawers and make space in the wardrobe, so they have somewhere to store and hang their clothes.

A sensible, yet stylish, bedside table either side of a double bed is invaluable too, as guests will want to pop mobiles and other devices, glasses of water, spectacles and books on them.

Our Antique White and Weathered Vintage Mango Wood Tray Side Tables are perfectly proportioned and the tray on top has the added bonus of being removable, offering dual functionality. So, after your guests have finished their Christmas morning cuppa in bed, you can whisk the tray away and the table remains complete.

Look for furniture in neutral colours as it will be suitable for guests of all ages. A neutral colour palette also ensures that as your tastes change over the years and you perhaps decide that you wish to change the colour scheme of a room, the furniture will continue to complement your room.

Giving the room a deep clean before the big day goes without saying and you could also add to your crisp, freshly laundered bedlinen, an extra blanket or throw to help your guests feel extra cosy and warm.

It’s a good idea to get new covers for your hot water bottles and to check them for leaks before guests arrive. You should also provide water and glasses to quench any midnight thirsts, a dressing gown and lots of fluffy towels.

Provide magazines and books, which your guests can read if they didn’t bring their own and pop these on your bedside tables. If you’ve got the space in the room, then use our Antique White and Weathered Vintage Mango Wood Tray Tables to give additional surface areas. They look great too.

Don’t forget to include coasters on tables to ensure cups don’t stain. For added Christmas sparkle, I recommend our concrete coasters with gold finish.

Also ensure guests have adequate bedside lighting for reading. If you’re after something contemporary and dramatic, try our grey glass necklace table lamp or for something equally as stylish, but simpler in look, go for our mustard stoneware and etch detail table lamp with a grey linen effect tapered cylinder shade.

There will be many other things you’ll need to do, but when your guestroom is done, sit back and enjoy! After all, a guestroom isn’t just for Christmas…
